I must admit I am at a loss. This is my second game against someone a good bit better than me I'll admit. I lost the first game, but put up a good fight, some mistakes here and there but nothing to terrible. We have just played our second match, I am one move from mate, and I received a message from him saying it is obviously a draw and thanks. But its not. I would accept a draw with any player, be they better than me or not, if it were in fact a draw. But I won this game fair and square. How can I graciously tell him to make his one last move or resign without sounding like a whiner? Maybe I am just missing how it might be a draw, but i doubt that.Game 5015274
Any help on resolving this would be appreciated,

Originally posted by autumnsdadUnless there was a "winkey" that accompanied the message saying the game was obviously a draw, I'd be more inclined to interpret the message as a rather unsportsmanlike attempt at conning a half point out of a much lower rated player. I'd be more inclined to put him on my ignore list. But that's just me, others might be more forgiving.
Game is over. Evidently I was to take the message of a draw as a Joke, I guess I really do need to lighten up. Sorry again about commenting on an ongoing game.
Well, I don’t send my opponents messages saying that the game is a draw, but I do often offer a draw even in clearly lost positions. Why? There have been several occasions where they have actually accepted them! Here’s a good example: Game 4820942 75. Qg5+ would have been the winning move.
Originally posted by Der BayerMaybe it's just a matter of degree. The game you referenced was mate in two, which is maybe a tad harder to see than a mate in one that the OP had. Also, offering a draw in a lost position isn't quite as bad as trying to bluff your way into a draw by attempting to intimidate your lower rated opponent with the statement that the game is an "obvious draw". If the OP's opponent really did make his claim of an obvious draw with a mate in one on the board, then I think he went too far. I for one wouldn't let something like that slide.

Now the debate about the draw offer has passed.
Did anyone notice the very strong 9th move Black has
instead of 9...Nxe5.

It's a shame, the rest of the lines are nice mates based on weak dark squares.
Originally posted by greenpawn34I was looking at 9...Bxf2+ but I'm not sure if it works. 10.Kxf2 Qh4+ 11.Kg1 and Black's Nh5 is still hanging. 11...Ng3 12.Nxc6 Nxh1 13.Kxh1 bxc6 is nothing all that great.
