Wow, sudden increase in my Rating.

I, for a while(2 weeks) was stuck at about 1260 or so.

I have been solving loads of tactics and playing allot, watched some videos read some stuff.

Today I memorised allot of openings and started using them.

My rating on chessmaster is around 1450 Now on here its about 1400 too about...

On Fics its about 1380 right now, just started playing.

This is amazing to me, seriously.

I have only been playing for 2 1/2 months now!

Anyone else experiance any, sudden jumps in their rating?

Your rating is still provisional... it can jump very easily... Most of us actually have to work to stop losing pathetically. (now i only lose after a long boring fight)😳

nope - only drops 🙁

Yeah but I mean, I can beat players rated 1350+- on Chessmaster and online now.

Not just this site.

Just finished another one, my Fics rating is now 1440 :p.

Try finding out what makes it drop.

I just studied most of the openings I use with chessmaster about 5 moves into them.

I belive that if you start well, you finish well. Also studying tactics helped.

I'm still just a beginner though, im so happy about this.

I have been playing for years but have never studied books or gone over my old games, so I am not surprised by my lack of progression.

Thankfully I only play for fun, so I supopose it doesn't matter wether I progress much or not 🙂

I guess your right, though I get a thrill out of watching my rating increase.

I also dont like getting crushed by someone otb and then he thinks his all that, so I practise. lol

I play chess, 50% for the fun of it, 50% for the competition of it.

Bobby Fischer man... don't quote me on this but he said something like "it's just you and the board, and you've got something to prove."... that's the whole of it, a bunch of guys trying to prove that their brain is that little bit better.

I seem to do worse the more I know heh. Actually I just need to get my groove back. I'm at another one of those stages where I feel like I'm teetering on the verge of getting better.

Yeah I know how it feels, this is the second time my rating has suddenly increased.

I was stuck at 1060 elo for 38 days... then I got to 1180 it felt so amazing, and so sudden.

Now again I have improved abit, I love it.

Thats what makes it so thrilling!

After loosing, twice to a guy at our school rated about 1400 in a weird opening, I came home and studied up on it, now I know what to start out with and what to plan once we play again.

It's a great sport/game/art/whatever.

I honestly think I'm almost a 1600 player.. when i play full game time controls i regularily draw against fritz and chessmaster (nothing special i know.. but a draw against the top programs impresses me).. yet on here.. i start playing good, then mid game i stop caring and make some stupid sacrifice just to spice the game up... ratings suck.

I cant draw against chessmaster... no ways.

To me, that is a big deal, atleast for now.

It's not always that impressive... this is one of my draws against C.Master

Funny how a 2900 Rated computer would draw that easily, it should know better lol.
