Here is a scenerio I think about from time to time, as it is a situation that comes up from time to time.

Lets say a persons rating is 1200, they have one game going against a 1250 opponent and one game against a 1150 opponent. The person is one move away from winning the 1250 game, and very close to losing the 1150 game. Should the person wait until the 1150 ends to win the 1250 game, would the rating be higher? Does the order in which those two games end effect/affect 😛 the rating?

Resign the 1150 one.

Assuming none of the ratings are provisional:

If you lose the 1150 first you drop 18 then gain 19 for winning the 1250. Finish rating 1201

If you win the 1250 first you gain 18 but drop 19 losing to the 1150. Finish grade 1199

I think you have to win/lose at least 25 points with the first game for it to have that 1 point difference in the next one. 25 points corresponds to a rating difference of about +-200 points.

I have put the RHP formula in a spreadsheet.

If you lose to the 1150 first you would drop 18.3 points. RHP seems to stick with whole numbers in my experience and I think you would end up with 1182. You then gain 19.1 for beating the 1250 thus 1201.

A 1200 would have to beat a 1420 to gain 25.0 points.

I am that 1150 rated player and he should not be discussing the game. It upsets me, like waffles.

I prefer pancakes. I made up the ratings and the game, its not a real situation, just comes up from time to time.
