And I hope you use your considerable CAD skills for all that is good and right 😉. I'm impressed!

Mark,

Forgive my density, first of all.

If the square looks something like so:

----------------
. . . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . . .
----------------

(Sorry, had to get that offa my chest bro)

call the corners
----------------
a . . . . . . .b
. . . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . . .
c . . . . . . .d
----------------

the treasure is 2 units from a, three from b, and four from d, yes?

so, in that case,
----------------
a . . . . . ./ b
. .\ . . / . . .
. . .\/(A) . .
. . . . .\ . . .
c . . . . . . \d
----------------
__ . . . .__ . . . . . . . . . . .__
Aa = 2, Ab = 3, and Ad = 4
So m>aAb + m<dAb does not equal 180, and hence there is not a straight line formed from a to d, so right triangle geometry is right out. Dangit!

We then have two triangles, 2x3xX and 3x4xX

. . . . /\................/\
. . 2 / .\3......&...3/. \4
. . . /__1\ .......... /__2\
. . . . x . . . . . . . . x
where m<1 + m<2 = 90deg

Sorry, that's as far as I got in geometry. Told you y'all had to be the brains behind this operation! Couldst thou explain, esse?

The treasure is always 2 miles from one corner and 4 miles from the opposite corner. So if the treasure is 4 miles from corner "b" it will always be 2 miles from corner "c"...

Otherwise you get a rectangle.

-------------
a . . . . . .b
. . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . .
c . . . . . .d

Dave! How great to see you back in here, albeit under a new handle. I don't think I have the patience to type too many squares. Read up on Hero's Theorem, and I'll explain this one to you over a cup of tea.
