The answer the the first one is Vowels I think. Only 1 in cat, 2 in horse, 3 in elepahnt, and 4 in crocodile.

Tom's mom had 4 kids: Nickel, Dime, Quarter, and the fourth is Tom.

The object is a keyboard.
