In a helpmate, White and Black cooperate to achieve checkmate of Black. Black moves first and White's 3rd move mates Black.

a) 1... Nxc4 2. Nd5 Ne3 3. c4 Rf4 4. Nxe3#

It's not too hard when you realize that c4 is necessary and that the knight has to give mate.

That's not mate - 4.Nd7 is possible.
