I find that once you know the method for solving something, it is often unneccessary to bother with plugging and chugging. At least he tried something.

90 seconds? Obviously a wrong answer. The husband's faster than the wife, so the train can't take longer to pass her than him. It only takes about 2 seconds to figure that out. I find his approach (just spewing an answer at random) pointless, and your approach lazy. I'd much rather give no answer than do either of the above.
