    The car needs x gas to get to the destination.

    The car has 0.9x.

    Therefore the car n eeds 0.1x.

    That's 10% of the total needed to get to the destination, not 10% of what the car started with!

    0.1x is not 10% of 0.9x, it's 10% of x.
