Someone recently asked me what is most energy efficient way to turn bread into toast, well I know it's not the microwave, it can't be convection or even conduction - so is the answer really radiated heat and what type of radiated heat? One question led to many others - any ideas?

The problem here is that toast is only toast when crispy on the outside. We need the heat just to take effect on the surface, so radiation is a good source.

Probably the horizontal toaster is more efficient than the vertical one, if you consider the heat losses .
