Training game. Sicilian c3.

  • 6. Qd1xd5
White does not look the gift horse in the mouth, gaining material and bringing a new piece to the centre of the board.
    • 6... e6
Black attacks the Queen gaining time for the development of the dark squared bishop.
      • 7. Qd5e4
White retreats staying out of the way of his own bishops and Black's knight should it come to c6.
        • 7... d5
Black shoves forward opening the position further if White elects to take en passant. Such a strategy normally favours the side with better development as they can access the open lines faster.
          • 8. exd6
Taking en passant. Now if Bxd6 then Nxc3 will leave White a knight ahead.
            • 8... Qd8a5
Black brings out the Queen with the tactic cxb2 discovered check in mind threatening the rook in the corner. If then Bd2 defending the check and attacking the Queen Black can play Qxd2+ followed by bxa1=Q and be two pieces for a rook and a pawn, which is much better than the current state of affairs.
              • 9. Nb1xc3
This simple retort develops another piece and picks up the pawn. White is a clear piece up.
                • 9... Bf8xd6
Black takes the pawn. The bishop is now unprotected and so is the pawn it was guarding at g7.
                  • 10. Qe4d4
White forks the Bishop and the pawn at g7.
                    • 10... Bd6c5
Although this attacks the Queen and protects the bishop it is most likely going to encourage white to play a move he was going to make anyway. Bf8 deals with the tactical problem but reverses development and Bb4 loses the g7 pawn eg 11.Qxg7 Bxc3+ 12.Qxc3 offering exchange of Queens as white is the piece ahead.
