Goring Gambit Tournament

  • 14. c5
Not in the top ten of stockfish moves and apparently throwing away a pawn's worth of advantage.
  • 14... Nc3b5
Attacking a7 and maybe intending Nd6 but I thought I could keep him out by blocking the knight's protection from the d1 rook with Nd3.
  • 15. Kc8b8
Kb7 looks more natural but falls into Bxc5 bxc5 Nxc5 check forking the King and bishop.
  • 15... Be3f4
Preventing Nd3 primarily but Nxe5 might also be a threat isolating the recapturing pawn.
  • 16. Ne7c6 Bf4xe5 17. Nc6xe5
I felt the exchange helped me more than him really.
  • 17... Rd1c1
I didn't expect him to give up contesting the d file especially as I now get to d3 with tempo but I guess he had to analyse moves like a6 getting in amongst his knights at every turn.
  • 18. Ne5d3 Rc1c2 19. a6
Now we'll push and see what gives.
  • 19... Nb5c3 20. b5
    and again
  • 20... Na4b6
    Forced
  • 21. Kb8b7
The king moves up ready to support the pawns while white tries to untangle.
