Jacek Gdański is a Polish chess Grandmaster (GM) and coach who was born on February 18, 1955. He earned his International Master (IM) title in 1981 and became a GM in 1995.


Gdański has participated in multiple Polish Chess Championship tournaments, winning several medals. He was the champion in 1984 and secured a silver medal in 1995, 2001, and 2004. In 2005, Gdański came in third place.


He represented Poland in various team chess events. Particularly, he played in nine editions of European Team Chess Championships, in 21 Chess Olympiads. His team won silver in the European Team Chess Championship in 1989, and he was awarded an individual gold medal two years prior.


His impressive performance in the 1997/1998 and 2000/2001 seasons guided the Polonia Warszawa team to attain the European Club Cup. Meanwhile, he clinched the second place in the title tournament of the French Championship in 2001 at Villepinte.


As a chess coach, Gdański trained the Polish national women's team from 1998 to 2004. Under his guidance, the team won gold in the European Team Championships in 2005.


Gdański has also made significant contributions as a chess organizer. Notably, he is a co-founder of the ‘Polonia Warszawa’ chess club and the organizer of the European Chess Club Cup in 1997 and 2002.
