Toms Kantāns is a Latvian chess grandmaster who first achieved Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) Grandmaster status in April 2020. Kantāns played for Latvia in the World Youth Chess Championship and European Youth Chess Championship several times, and has participated in four Chess Olympiads (2012–2018).
Some of his significant accomplishments include winning the Latvian Chess Championship in 2016 and the bronze medal in the European Junior Chess Championship (U18) in 2013. He also took second place in the 2019 TePe Sigeman & Co Chess Tournament, and came third in the 2019 Latvian Railway Open and the Paul Keres Memorial Tournament in Tallinn in 2019.
Kantāns is known for his aggressive playing style and has written a chess book, alongside fellow grandmaster Damian Lemos, called "The Hyper Accelerated Dragon." He often participates in online tournaments and streams his games on various platforms.
