Nguyễn Ngọc Trường Sơn is a Vietnamese chess grandmaster who became a grandmaster at the age of 14 years and 10 months, becoming the ninth youngest grandmaster in chess history. Born on February 23, 1990, in Rach Gia City, Vietnam, he learned to play chess when he was three from his father. He went on to win several national and international championships at a young age.

He won the Under 10 World Youth Chess championship in 2000 and had two successful performances in 2005, winning the Zone 3.3 Championships and the Under 20 World Junior Chess Championship, and finishing first in the Smart Communication Asian Chess championship, which helped him receive his Grandmaster title.

Son also won the gold medal during the 2006 Asian Games in Qatar, and was part of a team that won the silver team medal in the U-16 Chess Olympiad in 2007. In recent years, he was the runner-up in the 2014 Open de Cappelle-la-Grande, won the 2015 Cherbourg Chess Open, ranked second in the 2015 Asian Chess Championship and secured a place in the 2015 Chess World Cup. He was ranked around the top 100 players worldwide for several years.

Son continues to play in prestigious tournaments, and his playing styles are noted for maturity beyond his years and tactical insight. He is a part of the "golden generation" for chess in Vietnam.
