Paweł Teclaf is a Polish chess player who was awarded the title of International Master (IM) in 1984 and Grandmaster (GM) in 1989 by FIDE, the international chess federation.


Born on May 4, 1959, in Wroclaw, Poland, Teclaf started his chess career in the early 1970s. In 1975, he won the Polish Junior Chess Championship and in 1976 he won the European Junior Chess Championship. He has participated in multiple Polish Chess Championships and his best result was in 1986 when he won silver.


Teclaf's international achievements include tying for a win at international chess tournaments in Polanica-Zdrój (1982), Trnava (1983), Olomouc (1987) and Krynica (1989).


He was one of the members of the Polish national team that took first place in the 1987 European Team Chess Championship. His team also attained bronze in 1989 at the World Team Chess Championship and at the 1989 European Team Chess Championship.


In the Chess Olympiads, he has taken part seven times between 1982 and 1994. His best result was at the 27th Chess Olympiad in Dubai in 1986, where he achieved the fourth position with the team.



Outside of chess, Teclaf is an associate professor of the Faculty of Pure and Applied Mathematics at the Wrocław University of Science and Technology. He holds a doctorate in mathematics, and besides his native Polish, speaks fluent English, Russian and is somewhat conversant in French and German.
