Mustafa Yılmaz is a prominent Turkish chess player who holds the title of Grandmaster (GM), which he attained on September 2012. He has won the Turkish Chess Championship five times, and the Turkish Junior Chess Championship three times. He also represented Turkey in the Chess Olympiad six times from 2010 to 2020.
Yılmaz's career started to take off when he became champion of Europe at the under-10 level in October 2002. In March 2005, he won his first adult-level tournament. He attained the title of FM (FIDE Master) in August 2005, IM (International Master) in June 2007, and GM in September 2012.
Yılmaz participated in the Chess World Cup 2015, where he was knocked out in the first round by David Navara. He also took part in the Chess World Cup 2021, being knocked out in the first round by Levon Aronian.
Aside from individual competitions, Yılmaz also plays for Turkish clubs and has returned satisfactory results in European chess club level. He's been playing for the Turkish Chess Federation since 2001. In 2018, he switched to the Netherlands-based club, En Passant.
