Mert Yılmazyerli is a notable Turkish chess player who holds the title of Grandmaster. He was born on May 11, 1999, in Istanbul, Turkey. He achieved significant recognition in his early career, becoming the youngest player to attain the International Master (IM) and Grandmaster (GM) titles in the history of Turkey in the respective years 2015 and 2017.
Yılmazyerli’s career took off after he started attending the Kıraç Anatolian High School, which has a well-established chess training program. He received his early training from FIDE Trainer Özgür Akman. Subsequently, Yılmazyerli also went on to win several titles in international tournaments. He became the U16 European Champion and World School Chess Champion in 2015, won the Istanbul Chess Championship in 2016, and the Turkish Men's Chess Championship in 2020. He was also part of the national team at the 42nd Chess Olympiad.
