The QGD Slav Defence arises after 1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6. ECO codes: D10–D19.

The Slav Defence supports d5 with the c-pawn rather than the e-pawn, keeping the light-squared bishop free to develop (unlike the Orthodox QGD). After 3.Nf3 Nf6 4.Nc3, the main lines arise. The Semi-Slav (with ...e6) combines Slav and Orthodox ideas. The Slav is one of the most popular and solid defences to the Queen\'s Gambit.
