here's the funk, direct from the mothership. or flash light.
one nation under a groove.
and then there's always shake your pants. maybe it's more disco though...
(edits: damn, why can't links work in public forums...)
Originally posted by wormwoodok, admittedly it's not the greatest live version, but it was the only one i could find. to get an idea of how incredibly funky this track is, listen to the album version. it's on Standing on the Verge of Getting It On. track is called Red Hot Mama, and there's an instrumental reprise called Vital Juices:

you can hear a 30-sec sample of it here: http://www.amazon.com/Standing-Verge-Getting-Funkadelic/dp/B000AXWV4A/ref=pd_bbs_9?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1206877492&sr=8-9
actually p-funk made some pretty unfunky stuff in their parliament guise.

yeah, I don't know if it's the same version, but it's way more funky. it's still sounds more like blues rock to me though... sort of the same way like james brown has no stake on the funkiest song ever. he's funky and he's the man, but still more 'soul funky' than 'funky funky' if you get what I mean.
like take "funky drummer" for example, it's almost more jazz than anything else:
legendary stuff, but that's not the point, right?
Originally posted by wormwoodyeah that's the track, thanks. it looks like they took it from the compilation Music For Your Mother, the cover of which features in the video. don't know how i missed this one. i think you're right to say there's a lot of blues rock in this, but there's a lot of funk in it too, particularly the rhythm guitar.
found one album version:
