The bomb was a secret, some quoted did not even know it existed or were not even consulted. Most of the quotes were after the fact. And some of them were what someone else said they said. Even so the consensus by Truman's senior and most trusted advisers, based on facts AT THE TIME was to use it.
Intellectually dishonest, the hell you say.

Admiral Leahy (the Truman advisor quoted on that site) did not believe that the bomb would even work!
"This is the biggest fool thing we have ever done," he told Truman after Vannevar Bush had explained to the President how the bomb worked. "The bomb will never go off, and I speak as an expert in explosives."
There's one for the history books.

No apologies for your questioning your conclusions, misfortunate or otherwise.

Please give a citation for your so-called quote; if it exists at all I'm sure it was BEFORE the Los Alamos test which cleared up the question of IF the A-Bomb would work. Again you are being either deliberately deceitful or are just plain ignorant with no wish to check the facts.

Truman stated publically and repeatedly that the use of the bomb was a "military necessity" and that it was used against a "military" target. The second is a blatant falsehood; the first is at best a matter of opinion but an opinion that was NOT shared by his top military brass. I'll bet you not 1 in a 100 Americans knows this, so they have been given a story with critical, pertinent facts missing. The original question was: Why? But you've basically answered it; people like you don't want to know the truth if it interferes with your preconceived judgments based on little more than blind "patriotism".

Robert Oppenheimer : I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.
All I can say is visit the musuem in the peace park in Hiroshima.

It is truly incredible. The commentary is dispassionate, it casts no blame but explemflies the justification on both sides for all their actions.

From the photos, artefacts, clothes of the survivors to the childrens statue of paper doves and the flame that is burning until the last nuclear bomb is dismantled the place wreaks of living history.

The magnitude of what man is capable of doing to another man moved me far more than Pearl Harbour.

I hope the flame dies before I do.

You are openly showing your ignorance here.
You are the little man here. Nuff said.
And if you have writen a book (as you claim in your profile) about the post WWII era, why do you ask such a stupid question?
Is it a rethoric one? Or a personal attack against Argentina people?

Blah, blah...I'll waste no more time trying to school you.
Perhaps you should spend more time studying the history that exist,
before attempting to twist it to your views.

Obviously you should take your own words to heart as you show a basic ignorance of history in this and many other threads.

I guess I'll have to repeat the question, though since you fly no flag and post no star I'm not sure there's any reason your opinion should matter. Wasn't Argentina a country that welcomed the Nazis and their gold as WWII was winding down?

Maybe, just that 60 years ago Argentina was welcoming Nazis while the "killer" physicsts were building the bombs. Anyway the Argentinian seems to have vanished so I guess it doesn't matter.

Refrain to post anything that isn't to the point.

Geeze, a non-paying, book burning critic who insists on giving orders. You'll fit right in, CLT.

If you know a lot about argentine people, you must know what I mean with:

Sos un azno, un cerdo cagón que habla desde afuera. Poné las guindas en el fuego y contestá, huacho. Es fácil hablar boludeces cuando uno tiene la zapán yena, facho. Seguí esquivándole al bulto, malparido.

I have no idea what you're saying but I'm sure it's intelligent and enlightening and reflects honorably upon its speaker.

Sorry Delmer, it was not intended to be ofensive. As far as your sayings did.
I leave until you decide if you are going to answer my questions or not.
'Till then, hervite y tomate el caldo.

Probably a lot cheaper than burning gasoline.
