Another example of an innocent child suffering because of the massive and useless proliferation of guns in our society.
Stray bullet strikes 9-year-old on walk with grandfather
A 9-year-old boy was shot while walking with his grandfather along a rural road in northwest Fort Bend County Saturday afternoon, authorities said. The boy, whose identity was not released, went for a walk with his grandfather in the 3900 block of Nails Road, a rural part of the county near Fulshear, around 4 p.m. when the two heard a loud noise, said Ft. Bend County Sheriff's spokesman Bob Haenel. Shortly after the sound, the boy fell to the ground in pain and his grandfather saw a bullet wound on the top part of his leg, Haenel said.
His grandfather rushed the boy to an 24-hour emergency room clinic and then transferred by paramedics to Texas Children's Hospital. The injury was non-life threatening and the boy is expected to survive, Haenel said.
Sheriff's deputies are in the area trying to determine where the bullet came from. Haenel said a gun range is in the vicinity of where they were walking and it's a possibility the bullet may have come from there.
