A 10% Across The Board Tariff?

Debates

The possible planned tariffs amount to two or three trillion in revenue, which offsets a whole lot of spending. Trump wants to open market access with a fair trading system. With lower trade barriers. That is where Trump's head and his heart are. He is sick of other countries taking advantage of the USA. We will NOT find revenue sources in taxes.
Even Repubs like to spend money,, no question. If Trump could get the tax rate below 28% , it would result in new revenues. Common sense. Dems voting against the Bill? Want taxes to be increased.
Think twice about what Trump is all about. Big news coming over the next 4 weeks, it will be interesting to watch, and keep your fingers crossed.
Reagan got taxes under 30%, Trump can do it too.
Fun to not be writing bout Biden and his mannequin. SHouse is researching tsriff logic at the moment, choose your side!!!

Hey did you see where the anti-semitic Harvard sues Trump, so Trump responds by saying by god, I will stop all funding.(There is $100 remaining)
Do you love it that he wants to divert those funds to Trade Schools!!! Do you think $3B to Harvard, (Who has $53B) or send it to Trade Schools??
I think he should sever all ties Fed govt with this independent college.

Why don't you tell us all WHO PAYS THE TARIFFS?
Trump tells us in no uncertain terms say China pays the tariff for their goods coming into the US.
Or Brazil, or whatever.
So who pays the tariff?

You and I both know playing the game. Yesterday, T told Netanyahu to hold off on attacking Iran, to give Iran time to to think about it, maybe settle the nuclear question.
I cannot help but think that this is all a ploy. Netanyahu pretends he is going to attack? Trump shines by saying, no, no no, let us be patient., blah blah. So the world looks admiringly at Netanyahu and Trump, great leaders. Iran should settle down, realize what they are dealing with (Trump!) and may indeed come to the table.
You see, you see only what is on the news, what Don 'says'. Do you think for one minute that you and SHOuse know what in the hell is happening???? What his strategy is??? And, we will NEVER know.
The man is negotiating for god sakes.

Fwacking finally jeez. How long could we let one person take the whole country hostage?

All small businesses hit the 'buy' button tomorrow morning.

This exposes a need for faster paths to judgement and impeachment on such things...

There are a number of statutes where Congress authorized the President to declare an "emergency" exists i.e. " an unforeseen combination of circumstances or the resulting state that calls for immediate action" (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/emergency) and thus have extraordinary, temporary powers usually left to the Legislative Branch. Trump, being Trump, has declared a slew of "emergencies" in circumstances that represent long existing "problems" like the trade deficit and immigration and the DOJ has added the wrinkle that courts have no authority to question the President's determination of what Congress intended to be an "emergency" in any of these statutes.

Obviously if such logic is accepted, the President has almost unlimited, unreviewable discretion in areas left to Congress. It's rather unsurprising that the courts are not willing to accept such an extraordinary, unprecedented power grab by the Executive.

EDIT: The unanimous decision by the three judge panel is here: https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.cit.17080/gov.uscourts.cit.17080.55.0.pdf

While Judge Katzmann was appointed by President Obama, the other two judges were appointed by Republican Presidents - Judge Restani by President Reagan in 1983(!) and Judge Reif by President Trump himself in 2019.

Of course, because you're all in favor of an ignorant electorate.

Hey, see my post, Court of international Trade, NO TARIFFS.

They were illegal AND unconstitutional from day one, Trump didn't, doesn't and never WILL have the power to invoke tariffs. That is the job of CONGRESS and BTW, even CONGRESS cannot just say, yep we yield the power to make tariffs to Donald J Trump, THAT is also illegal.
So WHEN it gets to SCOTUS if they have any balls they will HAVE to agree with the court of international trade.
So Trump's wet dream is DEAD and good riddance.
I bet the stock market will have a CLIMAX over this one and a HUGE rebound.
Also BTW, that ruling says the money collected has to be returned to the folks screwed by this illegal BS. So much for Trump going TARIFFS are BEAUTIFUL.
And wanting to KILL the IRS and replace it with tariffs he says would eliminate the NEED for IRS.
TRUMP"S WET DREAM IMPLODING.

I guess you didn't hear that 100 mil in contracts was because the GOVERNMENT wanted that research, not Harvard. So do you really think HARVARD loses out here? The government loses out on the scientific expertise they were paying for.
So what will they do to get that expertise? I guess they hire Dr Oz or RFK jr, right?
