Where's the compromise? Between one gun and that gun?

I say cut the barrel in half and be done with it.

How well does it take out an automobile's engine block?

Is it longer range than other rifles? What's the intended application for a tough guy civilian type?

It seems to be intended to be an extreme range sniper rifle from the ground up - it NEEDS a scope, no iron sights. That means it's not a defensive weapon.

I don't think that thing is appropriate in the city, but in rural environments - maybe.

read the article, between a 50 cal,, and 338.... since the 50 is illegal in Ca....
The 50 would do damage to a block......

ah, but the city is where you'll get the most targets,, get up high in your building...
prepare for the war..... the water pump will do, and most calibers will do fine if you have the angle for the shot...... of course you'll need to know what style motor it is.... :-)

personally the key to survival in a nation of chaos....

1. savings, not paper money
2. supplies, helps to have something to barter with. multiple types of fuel and stabilizer, especailly if you are using gas,, dam ethanol...!!, candles, water, small stoves.... medicines......
3. solitude, stay away from those many who chose the route of the "grass hopper" rather than preparing as an ant.... side note, Utah and idaho are bound to have many families with good food storage supplies, but they'll also have weapons, and probably a small mormon army....
4. You are crazier than anyone alive......
5 several chess boards..... :-)

During the next 25 years, one of the following scenarios will likely take place:

1. Using some "national emergency" as a pretext, the President will suspend the Constitution and rule by decree indefinitely.

2. Using some "national emergency" as a pretext, a group of military and/or corporate interests will stage a coup, suspend the Constitution, and rule by decree indefinitely.

3. A state of perpetual deadlock will result in a completely dysfunctional government. The nation will break apart and descend into civil war.

4. A state of perpetual deadlock will result in a completely dysfunctional government. The nation will peacefully break apart and form separate nations.

The only thing that cannot happen is that things will continue as they currently are. So, which of the four above seems most likely, or are there more scenarios I've overlooked?

You can hit a target before they know you're around with any rifle. Bullets travel faster than sound.

I see none of those happening except in the fantasies of a few extreme right wingers and/or militia men.

ah, yes but a long shot is sometimes not even heard......
case in point.....
my 300 win necked to 6.5 target rifle.. shooting at elk out in excess of 800 yds,, they did not hear the gun....... they do notice a bullet hitting near, but not enough to move away to the timber.....

I cannot imagine very many scenarios where a civilian is going to be sniping large numbers of people in the city that do not involve mass murder.
