Do you ever get really serious and set alone for an hour or two in a beautiful place?
What do you think about? Yourself? Your family? The world? God? Movies? Music?
A little of all of it probably.
I had an experience yesterday flying around the tops of beautiful snow covered peaks as the sun went down.
I thought a lot about Earth. What a miracle that a bunch of "intelligent, sentient beings... all self absorbed on our tiny little planet" is. Think about your mind reading this message from around the world, using tools that effectively make our minds into a pack. A group who share ideas.
And our natural good looks. <edit>... ok , this is a joke in case you miss it. <end edit>
What if we are the only ones? Anywhere? Do you think maybe we should be finding more interesting ideas to ask about? I do. I just ain't smart enough to ask them.
And we are worried about "religion" and "race".
What a miracle. Or something pretty much like one.
I was saddened by a discussion by our SA members about racism. I got the impression that it is to be accepted.
Here is a thought for you. What if a group of insect men landed tomorrow and killed 90% of the humans on this planet. Do you really think you would care if you fought the bugs along side other PEOPLE with different attitudes and skin colors?
I have a cousin who had a baby by a black man. She could have aborted. She didn't.
She is a "little cousin" of mine. Fifteen years younger than I. Her kid is amazing. The marriage didn't last. Nor the one after that. But... Her kid is amazing.
Oh. Am I repeating myself? Sorry. But that kid is amazing. One of the finest people you will ever hope to meet.

Especially since you told me you were black.

"She" is a "he". That kid is amazing. Now 17 years old and entering university next year. The kindest kid and the smartest that you could hope for. He spent this past summer working as a teacher in Mali. For free. Teaching English.
He was attacked by a thug and spent a month in the hospital. But is doing well now.

Trust me. It was a brave thing for her to do. And that is the point of this thread. It was a "small" yet wonderful miracle.
<edit> Oh, yea. About me being black. I am. Except for my skin color.

How fun is intelligence? And being?
Think of it. Is there anything that is such a wonder? I would like you all to speculate as to anything that is as great as 'being'. Knowing. Thinking. Even if just a little.
Even to be a dog. What a thing in the nature of the universe.
Am I weird? I get all choked up when I view ten trillion stars and "know" that there is life out here.
Pseudo intelligent life. <grin>
Anybody here want to describe what will happen if you have 100 billion galaxies. Each galaxy has about 100 billion stars. Some much more. Some less.
And each star has about ten planets?
Do the math. How many planets are there?
How many are in the "green zone" where liquid water runs free?
How many? You know. Have life? Have beings like us?
What are they like? Are they worried about skin color?
How weird is it to think about whether the billions of races of "beings" even have "skin"?
Instead of .... whatever else they have?
And just for STANK...
Do they have their own evil US attacking the poor innocent Iraq?
I wonder.
