PESTILENCE
A Texas child who was not vaccinated has died of measles, a first for the US in a decade
A child who wasn’t vaccinated died in a measles outbreak in rural West Texas, state officials said Wednesday, the first U.S. death from the highly contagious — but preventable — respiratory disease since 2015.
The school-aged child had been hospitalized and died Tuesday night amid the widespread outbreak, Texas’ largest in nearly 30 years. Since it began last month, a rash of 124 cases has erupted across nine counties.

It's like were sliding backward in time, to the days of the Black Death. Only this time idiots are going willingly to the gallows, refusing life-saving vaccines that are readily available at just about any drug store or pharmacy. It's being recommended that anyone over 50 who has not received an MMR vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella) since early childhood had better get a booster. If measles runs rampant across the country thanks to ignorant anti-vax dumbasses, we can expect more (totally preventable) deaths and disfigurements (blindness, brain damage, etc.)
Don't forget to thank the "shithole nation" of Texas for all this. And speaking of Texas...
DEATH
Texas Banned Abortion. Then Sepsis Rates Soared
Pregnancy became far more dangerous in Texas after the state banned abortion in 2021, ProPublica found in a first-of-its-kind data analysis.
The rate of sepsis shot up more than 50% for women hospitalized when they lost their pregnancies in the second trimester, ProPublica found.
The surge in this life-threatening condition, caused by infection, was most pronounced for patients whose fetus may still have had a heartbeat when they arrived at the hospital.
ProPublica previously reported on two such cases in which miscarrying women in Texas died of sepsis after doctors delayed evacuating their uteruses. Doing so would have been considered an abortion.
The new reporting shows that, after the state banned abortion, dozens more pregnant and postpartum women died in Texas hospitals than had in pre-pandemic years, which ProPublica used as a baseline to avoid COVID-19-related distortions. As the maternal mortality rate dropped nationally, ProPublica found, it rose substantially in Texas.
ProPublica’s analysis is the most detailed look yet at a rise in life-threatening complications for women losing a pregnancy after Texas banned abortion. It raises concerns that the same pattern may be occurring in more than a dozen other states with similar bans.

Incidentally I've canceled my Washington Post and New York Times subscriptions, both rags being far too cowardly and subservient in the face of fascism for my liking. Instead I will be donating monthly to ProPublica, which did the hard investigative work to figure out the situation with sepsis in Texas. The Texan state government, presiding over a MAGA dystopia with few rivals when it comes to cruelty and ignorance, is not bothering to keep tabs on the consequences of its insane abortion ban and threatened jailing of physicians. Absolute madness.

Very true, and I predict this will get worse before it gets better.
