I read RC's post that you are considering leaving us at RHP. I want to implore you not to leave.
For selfish and utilitarian reasons.
Selfish because you defended me in my time of need. I need and value the knowledge that you could put up with all my silliness and still help me when I was banned for no reason.
Utilitarian because you have a knowledge of philosophy and life that is valuable. I have adopted several of the things you have taught by expression. If I can learn... can't others?
I think so. So please. Even if only occasionally, log on and say hi. Don't leave entirely. I had to quit playing chess. But I still say what I think. Occasionally.
I hope you can do that too.
I hope others support you and me in this thread.
Reason is too precious to lose to a busy life.

Originally posted by StarValleyWyIt was not my post, IIRC, but that is immaterial. I think Ben's disappearance is temporary, but I wouldn't mind seeing him duck in occasionally while he's 'gone'.

And he should repay his debts too 😛.

You and Bennet are intertwined because of the first post I ever made.
You tried to interpose reason between his reason and my raw stupidity.
Funny world.
RC! How doin'? dood? I hope to god you ain't going to the circus this weekend. Did you ever get drunk enough to be carried home in a cab?
<edit> What's this gossip about debts? Anything juicy?
So what does Bennet have that most of us don't?
The potential to be something if he applies himself.
It all amounts to the strife we are willing to endure.
How much we can push ourselves.
Bennet and RC. Both have raw ability. (sorry about the rhyme)
I will get my three PHD's. But that is beside the point. I don't expect to remake the world. Just impress it with my stuborn ability to persevere.

I suppose it is a question about utilitarianism, in the end.
For instance, if you have a gift for math and engineering comes very easily to you; do you have a responsibility to use that gift? Is it 'wrong' or somehow 'immoral' to waste such a gift?
I'm afraid I do not know the answer, except to say it is incredibly dissapointing to see someone with great talent not use it.
