@earl-of-trumps saidI find it amusing, or repugnant (take your pick), that Trump would ever be compared with other figures or events in history.
Of course he hates them but he is negotiating with the Taliban the way US
negotiated with Hirohito of Japan, and Germany, sans Hitler.
Further, the US was allied with USSR during the war, too, so Prez Truman had to
negotiate with Josef Stalin.
Stuff happens.
He has the deportment of a 12 year old who has been watching too many John Wayne movies.
His behaviour in the global arena reflects that.
Watch out, Donald !!
That saloon door is going to swing back and hit you right in the chops !!
25 days to go. 😛

Duchess keeps showing her ignorance of history.
The one concession the US made to Japan was that Hirohito not be dethroned. It was NOT an unconditional surrender.
@handyandy saidThank you for agreeing with me.

@earl-of-trumps saidYou're embarrassing yourself. Japan's unconditional surrender is as well-known as the atomic bombings. One event directly lead to the other.

That is heavily disputed by many historians. Soviet entry into the war, the smashing of the Kwantung Army in a matter of days (https://apps.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a144378.pdf) and the very real possibility of a Soviet invasion of the Japanese Home Islands seems to have been at least as serious a factor.
@vivify saidWrong. That was American propaganda to make the people feel good.

The truth is, Japan would keep fighting the occupation unless the military agreed
that Hirohito would not be deposed.
@no1marauder saidI have a friend from former USSR and we discussed events of WWII.

He told me if the US did not drop the bomb on Japan, the Red Army was going in.
A lot of bitterness there.

The post that was quoted here has been removedDon't paly dumb, Duchess.
You know damn right well I was saying that the US negotiated with people in Hirohito's government.
Do you actually think that if Hitler not fled that negotiations with Germany would have been directly with Hitler?
This is just like your many posts pointing out someone's punctuation errors.
