Hu Jia, an advocate for democracy and human rights in China, was awarded the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, Europe’s most prestigious human rights prize, on Thursday.

Last year, Mr. Hu testified via video link before a hearing of the European Parliament about China’s human rights situation. Weeks later, he was jailed and later sentenced to three and a half years in prison for subversion based on his writings criticizing Communist Party rule.

and yet there are still people in this forum that support communism.

No one is advocating communism. We are advocating ones right to create threads about communism if they so choose.

You, on the other hand, are advocating the same thing that the Chinese are; suppressing dissenting opinions.

This is basically the inverse of McCarthyism at work. It's got the same apparatus -- difference is
evil, agreement is required -- just a different (opposite) topic.

People were jailed in the 50s because they were accused (not proven, mind you, just accused) of
being communist.

This is what the Patriot Act did, if you ever read the text. Yes, I know, I know: it says 'Patriot,'
therefore it must be American to support it. That sort of mindlessness is what got us into the
trouble we're in. The Patriot Act was the greatest surrender of rights and liberties ever passed
in government, and was done entirely out of fear and hate.

Welcome to China, General.

I believe Shavixmir is an advocate for communism. Can't think of any others though.

It isn't relevant whether one is or isn't a communist. generalisimo wants to censor all posts that advocate communism. He wants to do exactly what the Chinese are doing, but uses what they are doing as an example of why we should censor posts about communism.

where does he ask for censoring? Post simply asks the question why would anyone support communism...

"I think that posts that are truly racist should be censored.
But if the person keeps posting racism in the forums then, I think the person should be banned.

I also think that posts that encourage communism should be censored."

Not me, I am advocate of the free exchange of information, which is a very non-Communist activity. You, seem to be leaning towards Communism, however, with your censorship.

You should wake up and smell what you are serving.

I'm not sure you even know what Communism is. It is no wonder that you are continually called a redneck.

clifflandin is going to find something against me, but he's doing that because he wants to protect the pro-communism threads from censorship, even though they promote an ideology that is dangerous.

so why would anyone support communism?

I still don't know.

Yes, I know what communism is.

I understand that you're an advocate of the free exchange of information (or so you say), but you have to admit that racism (for example) should be censored, otherwise you're just going to get people shouting abuse at others.

Im not in favour of censorship, but sometimes it is needed.
