Good grief whodey. So much for you militating for a new paradigm in Washington DC. You sometimes come across - as you do here - like the most crass kind of vituperative tabloid journalist. Same old same old, it seems. One shudders to think what kind of political leadership your angry sense of political impotence will eventually settle upon. Nothing 'new' or more decent than what you already have, that much is clear.
I have to admit, that was a little raw for whodey. What can I say, its rage against "the machine". At least I still have the freedom to do so.

So cap and trade is the "answer"? Answer to what? We see cap and trade implimented in Europe and all they do is come over here and pollute American waters. In fact, they are all still dependent on oil to a large degree. That is except France who have turned to nuclear power and who now export energy to its oil dependent neighbors. Cap and trade is nothin ...[text shortened]... to push one of these two agendas. Yep, cap and trade is the answer to the BP disaster. LOL.
Did I say that cap and trade was the answer?

I actually agree that cap and trade seems to be little more than a fancy way for the oil statists to make it look like something is being done about fossil fuels while actually leaving their oily "machine" unscathed. But there isn't any one "answer" - a whole bunch of things need to be done over many many years - and the man behind the curtain is going to resist each and every one of those things.

What we do need is for everyone to unite behind the general idea that it is time to topple the Great Fossil Fuel State and make like a pack of Totos and tear down the dang curtain once and for all.

They were trying to avoid electing a Barak Obama. But then after two terms of "W" they figured that they had to try something different. So who do you think they will turn to after Obama? Who is there "left" to turn towards?

No - the answer is the same as it always is: sit around complaining about any attempt to solve a problem (either because you don't believe it is a problem or any possible solution entails some personal disadvantage that you are not willing to shoulder) and wait for the catastrophe to occur. If any serious forethought and acceptance of responsibility was necessary to reach our current state of civilization then we wouldn't be here. I must confess however that observation has dulled even my emotional response because I certainly can't see the utility of keeping the species going to ensure the survival of the grandkids of most of the posters in this forum. No need to worry tho, at the current rate, we won't leave much on this planet for the big-rock to scour clean.

I'm with No1 on this one (at least what I've read so far).

Also I support either a cap-and-trade program or a carbon tax generally. Obviously not all government policies are equal so I won't endorse anything specific at this point.
