This is an opportunity for debate, this is not a persoanl belief rather an intellectual excercise about rather pertinent questions.
Wars are about Land, who has control and who wants control. There are many supposed reasons for going to War, from Weapons of Mass Destruction to the treaty's that have been signed between foreign powers for mutual protection, but inherently all Wars are about Land and who controls it.
I'll start us of:
The War in Iraq is about who controls the Land of Iraq, because America is so dependent upon the Gulf for its Oil it requires as stable an environment as possible. The best possible solution is to control some of the land itself and then you can self determine its future.
The insergents are attempting to regain their own control to self determine the fate of their land.
Discuss either this example or prduce your own,

Not much of a debate is it?
What else would wars be about?
The US War Between the States (Civil War for you yankees) was to preserve a nation. (Although it could be said that the Confederates wanted the South lands and the US wanted the power)
Okay, land and power. I'm on board.

Originally posted by lukemcmullanThe wars weren't about owning the land, but about controlling the territory or keeping others out of their hunting grounds. So whether or not they owned the land they did fight for it.
