Yes: Democrats in those days were conservatives.
Lee Oswald was hardly a Democrat,
nor, arguably, was Earl Ray.
Of course, even the less intelligent,
students of history, are aware that The Democratic Party,
of past decades bears little resemblance
to The Democratic Party of today.
The same can be said of The Republican Party.
Ended Great Depression---Democrat
Won WW II---Democrat
Social Security---Democrat
Unemployment Insurance Act---Democrat
Civil Rights Act---Democrat
Voting Rights Act---Democrat
WIC---Democrat
Welfare Reform---Democrat
Affordable Health Care---Democrat

Eisenhower committed us to Vietnam.
Kennedy committed us to Vietnam, then Johnson jumped in with both feet and sent half a million troops there.
First American soldier killed in Vietnam was Dec 1961.
Eisenhower sent a handful of advisors that were more observers than anything else.

How is what I said any different than the reference you posted?
"The first advisers went to Viet Nam when Eisenhower was president. Soon after President John F. Kennedy sent military advisors. US forces in Vietnam began to grow slowly. By the time President Johnston was in office, the US troop build up was accelerated. Before Johnson decided not to run for reelection in 1968, the US had as many as 500,000 troops in Vietnam."
It's exactly what I said.
Eisenhower only had a couple dozen or so advisors in Vietnam, all senior officers, not combat troops. We weren't committed in any way.
