America250 was established 10 years ago by Congress to start the non-partisan process of planning and organizing the 250th anniversary of the United States. They have a public list of corporate sponsors and are required to submit detailed budgeting reports on their activities.
Freedom 250 is a competing "party planning" group that Trump put together based on an executive order he signed last year. They do not disclose donors or abide by any oversight from congress or government and appear to be commingling public and private dollars potentially from foreign sources.
The two groups arent related, but they have the same goals. Which one seems more trustworthy? Why are two needed?
More importantly, why doesn't anyone seem very excited about celebrating our 250th anniversary?
@wildgrass saidfreedom 250 will be a dear dicktator party

@wildgrass saidI'm pretty sure they do not have the same goals. Everything Trump ever does has some financial gain in it for himself, whatever else might be going on in the foreground.
How can we tell the difference? They have basically the same name, same goals.
@moonbus saidIts weird that no one seems excited about it. Feels more like a nation either ashamed of what we've become in the last 250 years, or just tired of being berated for not loving our country enough.

There are more people excited for the Knicks being in the NBA finals.
@wildgrass saidIt's because we all know Trump is going to incentivize this. We don't go along with his grift is all, and that is what this has become, another grift, with an idiot in charge.

If he'd left it up to us or Congress, it might have gone better, and people might be more excited. But a UFC fight on the White House lawn? Give me a freaking break.
And yes, I'm far more excited about the NBA finals.
@Suzianne saidAgreed. Trump’s utter tastelessness will ruin it, as he has ruined the interior of the White House with superfluous ostentation everywhere your glance might fall. The human cockfighting arena on the White House lawn tells you everything you need to know about how Trump’s 250 yr ‘celebrations’ would turn out:

Nobody else knows how old their country is.
Nobody knows the full lyrics to their national anthem (except the Scots… and it’s not even officially their national anthem).
Nobody says their country is the greatest.
There’s something seriously wrong with American attitudes towards life.
@shavixmir saidI assure you that every Swiss knows when the first three cantons swore an oath to defend their confederation against foreign interference, and that every Briton knows when his island was last invaded.
It interests me zero.

Every Iranian knows that his civilization predates Christianity by several thousand years.
I can‘t speak for the Dutch, but you can probably all name your monarch and the heir apparent, at the very least.
What made America exceptional was that it successfully transferred power 44 times, peacefully, on schedule, without inciting riots—until January 6th, 2021, that is. The fact that many Americans are not sure about T47 leaving office peacefully, on schedule, without inciting another riot, speaks volumes about the forthcoming 250th.
@moonbus saidYes, and most people know what date WW2 started as well.

That’s just general history.
Well, maybe not the Swiss cantons, that’s just crazy talk if you ask me.
As for how old the Netherlands is, that probably depends on your definition of the Netherlands.
All Dutch people know what the 80 year war was, but they don’t know who the Netherlands gained independence from.
Ask the average Scot who the fourth king of Scotland was? They won’t know.
Ask the average German what the first two Reichs were… I presume many won’t know.
Watch the football. The Dutch hate the German team and always want them to loose.
However, in the first line of the Dutch national anthem they sing: “… I am from German blood.”
Patriotism is stupid, but nowhere is it stupider than in the US.
Reciting the stars and stripes every bloody day.
Ridiculous.
@shavixmir said"age of country" is not as easy as it sounds.

The Federal Republic of Germany was etsablised 23th of May 1949.
But some put the birtn of the "current FRG" as 3rd of October 1990, th reunifictaion date.
And "Germany" is of course a label put on some land by Tacitus, the people that imigrated in the 5th and 6th century were probably not identifying as "German"....
@shavixmir saidIt is true that the founding of many countries is shrouded in myth and legend. The USA is rather different in this respect, having been founded on a specific date wh/ is well-attested.

The French are on their fifth republic, if I'm not mistaken. Try and try again, as they say.
