Why should us wealthy, beautiful people from the greatest City in the World have to share our hard earned ducats which are meant to be lavished on our warriors with Detroit or Kansas City just because there on the dole, unemployed autoworkers or moonshine makers don't have the financial means to support their pathetic squads (even if they wanted to)? It's a darwinian dog eat dog world out there; if these teams can't compete then they should go the way of the dodo or stagecoach drivers.

Native to Colorado, I'm a Rockies fan. (Hold the laughter till the end please) I'm all for making things into a more level playing field. With free agency, teams with more money become the better teams, and when they play better, television contracts and ticket sales improve, which in turn, gives the team more money, allowing them to purchase more free agents. It's all a vicious circle, one that will eventually lead to only a select few teams being able to compete.

Let's try a test here, (not for anyone who lives in New York or Colorado)

Name a New York Yankee's Pitcher, easy right?
Now, name a Colorado Rockies player OTHER than Todd Helton. A little more difficult you say?

Name an infielder for each team.

Name an outfielder for each team.

You see? Teams like the Yankees buy all-stars, while teams like the Rockies rely on their farm system. With the endless loop, the differences between teams will only get larger, ruining the fun of baseball.

BAH, what rot! Baseball all through it's history has usually had eras with a dominant team, normally the most successful sports franchise in history. If the weaker clubs need revenue, I would support the folllowing proposal: if a team finishes below say 70 wins two years in a row, the families of the players, coachs, owners and 10% of the season ticket holders should be seized by MLB and sold into white slavery in Bangkok or Bombay or some other pestilence ridden hellhole and the proceeds sent back to the lame team to buy free agents. It's a perfect solution: it would give the slackers on these bottom level squads a reason to put forth their best efforts and would provide much needed revenue for the most pathetic of them without cutting down on Derek Jeter's Lear Jet use.

That gets a rec just for the idea of selling 10% of everyone connected to the team into slavery.

The honest to (Insert non-denominational force of a higher power here) truth is that I only have this opinion because my home team is projected to be the worst team in baseball this year.

Then again, when Derek Jeter and his lear jet could post a lower E.R.A. than the Rockies bullpen, perhaps 10% do deserve to be sold into slavery...

That's what you get for calling up Matt Anderson. He couldn't pitch in the spacious confines of Comerica Park. He'll surely get hammered in that minor league park the Rockies play in.

I don't think they've held .500 for any length of time since Donnie Rumsfeld was hugging Saddam.

1993 was the last time the Tigers finished over .500. But that dark age is about to come to an end. There's going to be a baseball Renaissance in Motown very soon. It'll be like the 1980s when Detroit was one of the most successful franchises in baseball. Just you wait, you'll see.
