Science!

A business owner tested if customers would pay more for American-made. The results were 'sobering.'

After several days and more than 25,000 visitors, he said he sold 584 of the lower-priced shower heads and not one single purchase of a US-made version.

We have manufacturing capability?

I thought we sold all our factories to the Russians.

Like Mitch McConnell did in Kentucky.

Americans know the price of everything and the value of nothing; that's why they moved manufacturing overseas, where labor costs are lower. Now they're bitching that the working class lost their jobs and want a billionaire conman to deport all the foreigners. You can't make this stuff up ...

In fact the same is true everywhere else (maybe with the exception of Switzerland, they are really proud of their quality).
Most people go for price first, that is one of the reasons that a throw-awy culture could develop at all.

We are now ALL paying the price for only buying the cheapest.

Look at the quality of Chinese goods - cheap crap.

HOWEVER, we ONLY have ourselves to blame; we only go for the cheapest - look at airlines; cheap as crap seats and you even have to pay for which row you sit in (ie , get off faster); leg room, extra cost, complimentary nibbles, extra; even a friggin glass of water. extra.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have totally screwed ourselves and our economies;

BUY CHEAP FROM CHINA has cost the rest of the world dearly

For example, Nickel processors won't pay extra for 'clean' Nickel so buy cheap Chinese-funded low quality, environment polluting cheap garbage Nickel from Indonesia.

Everyone is buying these cheap garbage Chinese cars - at what price to the environment and what are we going to do with them in a few years when the cheap quality batteries are worn out and a replacement will cost more than the car is worth.

We are our own worst enemy; you buy cheap and you get what you pay for

I am NOT, repeat, NOT a Trump fan at all, but I hope he can succeed in bringing manufacturing away from China.

Here in Australia we are piss weak; we simply dig up our valuable resources and send them overseas for processing into much more valuable assets.

The world has let China become a powerhouse that manipulates and controls.

You get what you pay for and unfortunately you get what you vote for

The Chinese have the world screwed - trump is a toy

Spot on, Pondy. We do pay higher prices here for locally produced goods. But we also have lower taxes. You pay 20% VAT/Sales tax in Germany; we pay 7%. So proportionately more of the sale price goes to the local market owner or the farmer and less to the federal govt. It's a model which works well here, but may not be scalable to the size of America or Germany.

What I notice about Germany is, you see trucks on the Autobahn heading south advertizing Holstein milk (from the far north), and in the oncoming direction, trucks going north advertizing Alpine milk (from the southern border). Nobody but the trucking industry profits from this. In Switzerland, milk is produced and sold within the same canton by and large (though a few cantons may not produce much milk, but they sure don't import it from Schleswig-Holstein).

Trump certainly isn't going to 'fix' it with his erratic unilateral antics. The Bretton Woods agreement (1944) would have to be re-negotiated on a world-wide basis to fix what is skew now. One can hardly blame the Chinese for having figured out how to game a deeply flawed system.

I would have thought at least one American would have bought a beautiful new American shower head to go along with the new better water pressure!

The irony is that Trump had a number of Bibles printed, to be sold at a grand mark-up, and I'll give you one guess where they were printed.

China.

Did anybody mention a tariff on Bibles imported from China? Nööö.
