However, if we take the whole creationism idea out of the picture, a scientific discovery (there are thousands of them) is not going to be a blow against religion in general. The rationale would be that, no matter how smart our scientists get, they will never scratch the surface of understanding the world that God created. Another way to put it is that since God invented the concepts of physics and biology to begin with, just because we are starting to understand them doesn't mean that he doesn't exist.
Of course, if you are just talking about creationism, then none of that applies either. Science will never convince those fundamental idiots of anything.
