Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.) falsely claimed in an interview this week that a video clip of her referring to the Israeli "occupation of Palestine" was "doctored."

The clip Ocasio-Cortez took issue with came from a July 2018 interview on PBS's "Firing Line With Margaret Hoover." The freshman congresswoman told the Intercept, in an interview flagged by the Daily Wire, that the video "got doctored and then the doctored video was the one that ended up on Fox News and then like everyone just sees the doctored version instead of the actual exchange."

In the interview with Hoover, Ocasio-Cortez said, "I also think that what people are starting to see at least in the occupation of Palestine is just an increasing crisis of humanitarian condition, and that to me is just where I tend to come from on this issue."

When pressed on her use of the term "occupation," Ocasio-Cortez said she was referring to "the settlements that are increasing in some of these areas in places where Palestinians are experiencing difficulty in access to their housing and homes." She then admitted she is "not the expert on geopolitics on this issue."

Soon after the interview, CRTV's Allie Beth Stuckey released a parody video in which she included some of Ocasio-Cortez's remarks from the interview with Hoover, although it did not include her comments about the "occupation."

Ocasio-Cortez claimed Republicans were publishing fake videos because they fear her.

Republicans are so scared of me that they’re faking videos and presenting them as real on Facebook because they can’t deal with reality anymore.

    Here’s one bonafide truth:
Election Day is November 6th. https://t.co/Z7MfisgiWl

Stuckey said the video was clearly satire, saying they "employed a tactic that people have been using in political dialogue for decades, which is satire … Stephen Colbert, Jay Leno, other late-night show hosts have used this exact same tactic of making a legitimate point through absurd means."

"For the most part, people understood and appreciated the joke," Stuckey said.

At the time, Ocasio-Cortez did not claim "Firing Line" doctored her interview with Hoover, where she clearly makes the comments about Israel and "Palestine." Rather, she claimed Republicans were "faking videos and presenting them as real" in reference to Stuckey's parody, which did not include the "Palestine" comments.

While Ocasio-Cortez told the Intercept that everyone only saw the parody video because it "was the one that ended up on Fox News," her interview with Hoover was widely covered, including on Fox
