A deal by a United Arab Emirates firm to take control of six US ports has been delayed, following objections by leading US lawmakers.

Dubai Ports World had planned to take over the US ports of New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Baltimore, New Orleans and Miami by buying UK firm P&O.

But lawmakers in the US Senate opposed to the deal warn it will make the US more vulnerable to terrorism, pointing out that the UAE was the home of two of the 11 September 2001 hijackers.

President George W Bush said: "People don't need to worry about security." He also added that the UAE was an important partner in the US-led war on terrorism.

Should the deal be allowed to go through? Will security at US ports be safeguarded or compromised under foreign control?

Interesting sidebar to this story...

Of the $126 million received in international donations for Hurricane Katrina victims, $100 million came from the UAE...

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/1151AP_Ports_Security_Katrina.html

I would think that these morons in the House and Senate must consider these to be tainted donations.... should the US give that money back?.

I can only go by the definition of 'threat' as given by certain party leaders in Washington... The UAE didn't attack us on 9/11, therefore they're not a threat.

The deal will go through.

The whole country is owned by foreigners, except Red Lake, Minnesota; Oraibi, Arizona; Laguna, New Mexico; parts of Pine Ridge and Rosebud, South Dakota; Neah Bay, Washington; and a few hundred similar tiny locations.

Along those lines:

"...I love this quote. It's from Mahatma Gandhi. He ran a gas station down in St. Louis for a few years. Mr. Gandhi, you still go to the gas station? A lot of wisdom comes out of that gas station..."

I personally can not believe that Bush sees no problem with letting
a group of Arabs run our ports.
This just goes to show what a sell out and a moron Bush is.
