NIH: Return money to tax payers
It's hard to overstate how supremely terrible an idea this is.
The NIH might be the best return on investment that our country makes in our economy. It beats out almost everything else. Study after study has shown that every single dollar spent on the NIH is about $2.64 worth of economic activity 3 years later, with even larger numbers in the out years. Many examples are out there where the idea/patent that founded companies that are now at billions in market capital were started because of a $200,000 grant funded for a small laboratory project.
The NIH funds everything from extremely basic science to clinical trials, translation medicine, engineering, small business startups, linked to millions of private sector jobs. If our economy loses the biomedical R&D battle with Chyna and India, then our economy will be in big trouble.

This funds SS, Medicare and Medicaid indefinitely, for the foreseeable future. Probably can lower the percentage, which would help all Americans. 😆
