If a Sergeant from your local Army Base came up to your house and asked you to if you would like to go to Iraq and "fight" for your country... You then look at your kids and wife and decide to go.....
2 days later you are at your new base phsical training push ups in mud and trainging with machine guns and rifles! 😵 then you are sent to Iraq...
A place you want to be or would you rather be in your recent job and have a "better life"
So if you join the army are you a hero or it your one class ticket to hell?
Originally posted by Howell123What point are you trying to make? If you don't want to go, nobody is forcing you, if you join the army then it is your duty, end of.

Originally posted by Howell123Of course it's a ticket to hell. If not in the next world, than this one. You think you can jump about shooting people like crazy, seeing your friends get shot down and worse, constantly being worried about taking a shot or triggering a landmine (the worst are those - a good bomb that does the trick is not nearly as bad as living the rest of your life as an unappreciated invalid) and then come back and lead a perfectly normal life? Of course not! From the day you enter a battle in war, first hand, 'til the day you die, you will never be the same again.

As for being a hero: it depends, doesn't it? Who's judging? Were you forced to fight? Did you do it for other people's safety and well being; people unable to defend themselves?
The biggest hero is the one whom out of compassion for the enemy civilians chooses not to fight unless absolutely necessary. (I can only think of one such situation and it's not the iraqi war.)

Being a hero is such an overused word that it's sickening. You shouln't go to Iraq with the hopes of becoming a hero. You should go for your own self-appeasement. Fighting in the army is fighting for what YOU believe in, first and foremost.
As for me, I do plan to fight for my country upon finishing high school.

In my opinion, a "true" hero is someone who sacrifices his/her life for that of someone they don't know, such as a swimming rescue where the the rescuer drowns and the rescuee servives; a Marine throwing himself atop a grenade and being blonw to shreds in order to prevent his buddies from being blown up and killed; one who enters a burning building because they hear a child crying inside. The ultimate hero was Jesus Christ who died for ALL of us billions of past, present, and future humans....just my opinion
OK, for you sports fanatics, I'll include Dennis Rodman as a "hero" 🙄

You must be talking about the 19 Arabs who flew four planes of innocent civilains into buildings and the ground and killed an extra 3,000 "innocent civilians"...right?

If you live by some double-standard in life, it gives you no right to try and make me look as if I do.

At least you restored my faith in you being a complete and utter fool. Fool. 🙁
