Artificial prolongation of Life and Organ donation

Hi there everybody,

we here (Germany) have seen more and more people beeing feared of the artificial prolongation of their lives by means of mechanical breathing and feeding etc. Therefore we have something "new" called certification of the will of the patient (poor translation sorry). The future patient issues a document in which he writes down his will to deny the artifical prolongation of his live (or sometimes bodies life) with machines.
The very same people who try to avoid the prolongation have an ID card identifying them as Organ donaters at the same time.

You have to know that if you want to donate your organs that means that your family has to say good-bye to you while you are still at a healthy color and still breathing and your heart is still bumping.
Then they were nurses who told on the radio that technically spoken they try to remain your body only to the time you are braindead then they are trying to remain the organs.
Once you are on the table they insert your body a muscle relaxation fluid and some use some painkillers too.
When they open your body while you are still alive (yet not responsing as you are braindead) the doctors told that the body reacts in panic to the coming death, he starts sweating and your body is rushed with adrenaline.

So there is a real problem. Once you decided to donate organs you must bear in mind what this means. Once you decided to deny artifical prolongation you have to refrain from donating organs.

As for many thing the buddhism has an easy solution: One isn´t allowed to touch a just died body unless you had the time to dring a cup of tea (giving the spirit the possibility to remove from the body in peace and silence).

I would very much like to know what is your opinion on both topics Organ Donation as artificial prolongation of live (not these shiavo topic).

If there should be a similiar thread just some weeks ago I apologize and ask the mod to close this thread then.

So lets see what you think. ;-)

Oh God that's hilarious. You telling someone to stop filling the forums with crap. I can't stop laughing.

I'm an organ donor if it ever comes to that. My mother works with sick kids and if I could do anything to help them then of course I would.

On the prolonging of life it's hard to be definate without being in the situation but I don't believe I'd want to be kept alive by machines if there was no chance of recovery.

i thought there's no contest about either of those options .... it's just the owner's choice ...

maybe it's different in Germany, are either of them controversial there? ...

i think the nations should put a lot more money into research on organ culture. sometime in the future, they could grow clones and suppress generation of the brain (the thinking part; some people are born with cortexes or close to it) ... so you wouldn't need to kill a thinking person to harvest the organs, and with better organ rejection suppression you wouldn't need one clone per person, either ... or maybe they will do it piecemeal, grow the organs one at a time instead of all at once, but maybe all at once is easier ...
