@capacrapa saidCan't buy a beer, or a pack of cigarettes,
Most 18 year olds will pass a background check for one.
A few of the shooters wouldn't have but most will.
only an AR-15.

Also, if they fail a background check they can just buy an illegal gun off the street.
Or they will use a truck and run you over 🤷
@athousandyoung saidGood point....

TRUCKS DON'T KILL PEOPLE......
Remember, when trucks are outlawed,
only outlaws will have trucks.

Well, we know a few of these shooters would have
been denied with a simple background check.
Ya' gotta' start somewhere, this is getting to be a weekly thing.
Gun violence IS THE LEADING CAUSE of CHILDHOOD DEATH in U.S.A.
How can any thinking person be against a simple background check?

#1 move the age to 21 for all guns. (maybe ?) I can't see a high school student owning an ar-15
#2 a license for an ar-15 or any automatic will be a different license much like a universal
driver's license for truckers where the testing/requirements are very stiff.
There are things they can do without violating the 2nd amendment, IMO
@earl-of-trumps saidThose examples EXACTLY what

most people are suggesting.
Simple safeguards.
You can't point out ANYONE who is
saying otherwise.
@earl-of-trumps saidThis is so obvious that it's amazing something like that has not been enacted yet. Therefore my OP. Wondering about the years of dodging and resistance by those who could make it happen.

A suggested modification: I'm not a mental-health expert or well-read on the subject, but when early-onset schizophrenia occurs in guys, it happens in late teens or early 20s, so maybe the age should be moved to 25 or so for guys (also to screen for alcoholism).
This doesn't seem to be the case for women (corrections welcome) so maybe for women, age 21 would be okay for gun ownership.
@kevin-eleven saidCan't do the different age thing (unconstitutional) but,

the 25 year old requirement makes sense to me.

@capacrapa saidYeah, probably.
The problem is when someone meets those guidelines and still shoots up a school yall gonna ask for more laws and restrictions.
What are you afraid of? That you would not be allowed to mow down a bunch of people with your new AR and hundreds of rounds of ammo?
Or are you afraid of preventive policing: e.g., putting some young guy down like a rabid dog based on evidence he is planning a mass murder? (see also: Atticus Finch).

@capacrapa saidGiven that you seem to be Canadian, how would that be a problem for you, and how is it any of your damn business?

Let's go to the race track.
