Oh my God!
Europe’s been infected by American stupidity!
18.000 people demonstrated in Berlin.. opposing the anti-corona regulations in Germany. The measures are keep some distance between people, wear masks in stores and no large gatherings.
So, not like the striktest of regimes.
Anyhoo... a small, but vocal, contigency of people think that this is totalitarianism. Considering Germany’s past... uh... slightly exaggerated.
So, who are these demonstrators? Well...
From the BBC:
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-53959552
Mr Kennedy told a crowd at the Victory Column that his uncle had famously addressed Berlin in 1963 to counter totalitarianism and that "today Berlin is again the front against totalitarianism", warning of a surveillance state and the power of 5G phone networks.
Photos shared online also showed flags and slogans linked to the conspiracy theory QAnon. The wide-ranging, unfounded conspiracy theory says that US President Donald Trump is waging a secret war against elite Satan-worshipping paedophiles in government, business and the media, among other claims.

Let’s debate: US stupidity is more contagious than Corona.
@vivify saidI found it amusing early on how some used the results achieved by mitigation as evidence to oppose mitigation because the pandemic was overblown.
That's amazing given that those Germans saw their nation become a leader in effectively combating COVID-19; now those same people are protesting the same measures that made their country a success?
Eladar ? Care to comment ? 😛
@earl-of-trumps saidThat is to be expected.
And as I understand it, London is having anti-mask protests.
Only so much people can take. Corona fatigue has hit.
A pandemic will create these stresses.
Response has to be well thought out and measured.
And balanced.
I have heard of estimates from the UK that they expect an additional 30k cancer deaths in next couple of years due to stress on health care system.
Stuff will happen. In every country.
It just so happens there is an election in the US this fall.
And government response to this pandemic will be front and center.
Seemingly a large contingency of the protesters are far-right activists.
That’s why they listen to Qanonsense and 5G paranoid delusions.
Basically, they just oppose anything the State does, use the internet to poison any form of debate and make enough noise so their group looks much larger than it is.
@shavixmir saidI read that it was 38,000 across two demonstrations.
18.000 people demonstrated in Berlin.
I’m not surprised in the slightest, neither at the demonstrations nor at certain people calling the demonstrators morons or other abuses.
@mghrn55 saidDo you have a link to this please?
I have heard of estimates from the UK that they expect an additional 30k cancer deaths in next couple of years due to stress on health care system.
I would expose the an increase in average death numbers due the stress on mental health, not necessarily the health care system.
@divegeester saidYes. 38.000.
I read that it was 38,000 across two demonstrations.

Seemingly the Beeb raised their numbers after I posted. Or I misread.
Qanon, 5G, anti-vaxers... they’re all on display at that demo.
That is moronic.
I mean, calling the temporary anti-corona measures totalitarian is already moronic, doing so in Berlin after WW2 and the East German stasi business is retarded and then screwing your message with conspiracy madness... well, it’s just cruising for a verbal bruising...
