As I read the story Trump 8and by proxy Bondi) needed a person willing to go for him at all. The more seasoned prosecutirs (having at least one case under their belt) wouldn't take it.
Now a judge has found that the choice was of the prosecutor was not allowed under the rules (this will go up to the Supreme Court for sure, so no need to cry "victory" too fast). So no reason to cry "victory" BUT will the president appoint (and the Senate approve) of a procesutor for the district that will take up the case?

Most people view Comey as a parked car. He has no power or oversight. He is out to pasture and writing crime novels now. If he did a real crime, fine, punish him for that, but it's not worth a newspaper headline. You'll notice there's no one "defending" him because there's nothing there. He's parked.
But MAGA is barking, loudly. They all seem to still view him as a threat. Why? Because he threatens dear leader's authority. He dared to question Trump once. He must go down or Trump might be a weaker fascist than they thought.

Trump revealing that he has no real position on anything, other than possibly making money may he a bit unsettling for the faithful.
