I do not approve of the riots in cities like Portland. However, there is no comparison. January 6 was an attempt to overthrow a democratically elected president. It was an attempted coup. That you cannot see the difference is quite disturbing.

I blame Afghans and previous administrations for the Afghanistan mess. Biden shares the blame, for the final step for getting out of the war. But Trump sabotaged the Afghan situation for the troop drawdown to 2500 before leaving office.

Debt limit. Trump added $7.5T to the debt during his 4 years in office. Enough said.

So if the Dems have what appears to be all of the aces, and control the three big pillars of American politics, what is it that stops them from doing what they want?
How is the smaller opposition party responsible for stopping the controlling elected party from doing what it wants debt wise? Surely they can just out-vote them?

The elephant in the room is the filibuster. Joe Manchin and his lady buddy refuse to allow the end or even mods of the filibuster.
So with an exact split, 50/50 literally, the VP has the chance to tip the vote into Dem favor IF we can kill or mod the filibuster.
The filibuster is a time consumer, that is its main function, run out the clock so nothing gets past.
Right now Moscow Mitch (McConnel) is hanging that over Dems.
And Manchin agrees, so we are blocked from ANYTHING in the line of stopping vote suppression which is sorely needed to preserve our democracy.
We then get the BS about 'US is NOT a democracy, it's a democratic republic' or some variation.
It seems a BUNCH of people in the US WANTS an authoritarian government.
So we may fall into that black hole in less than 4 years.
