A positive outcome would be for the ideological split within the ANC (read "The fall of Thabo Mbeki" on the page I linked to for more details) to develop into a full-blown schism, complete with extra opposition party. What's killing South Africa is too much ANC.
But to answer your question properly -- Mbeki getting the hoof is positive overall. Apart from everything else, his love affair with Mugabe was just too much to swallow.

But will this happen, or will the ANC supporters just flock to the 'new messiah' ?
Judging by my experience as a South African living in South Africa I'm a bit sceptic or should I say carefully optimistic.
Lets hope for the best.

Originally posted by ysterbaardUnfortunately the average ANC supporter is poor, uneducated and jaded about his/her future, so anyone preaching 'revolution' will get their votes - no matter their track record.

Political parties in SA are just too racially divided to unite the whole population.
Originally posted by spruce112358If you like the only difference between the USA and the RSA (Republic of South Africa), is Reagan and Bush had a first class economy to run down. But if American's dont wake up and allow 4 more years of the same MacPain, then I would not be surprised if the US economy starts resembling that of a developing third world nation. Given enough debt any nation can be lumbered into being a banana republic.
So you think he's all right?
PS. For all those living in North America:- Avoid the rush and enrol in tourism training college now and get your welcome mat ready in anticipation of your dollar collapsing.
