* If you are an American sick of corrupt Mexican politicians and businesspeople who make the poor poorer, forcing them to go as illegal aliens to the U.S., and/or
* If you like the real Mexico (the one in the south, not fake North) or the real Mexicans (the poor), and/or
* If you support the idea of the majority ruling its own destiny, and/or
* If you think a third world country at least deserves to make its own mistakes, instead of being told by the ruling elite, and/or
* If you despise the F.B.I. intervening in the fragile, circus-like, rogue democracy of a puppet third world country, and/or
* If you despide corruption, and/or
* If you are sick of ilegitimate authorities...

With huge pain in my heart, but I think it's time to BOYCOTT Mexico. Do not go as a tourist there, do NOT buy products that have any connection with Mexico, do NOT tolerate Ambassadors or Consular officials in your city to LIE about what happened, and PLEASE, consider sending an e-mail to.-

Saying how sad are you about all the evidence of a FRAUD in the recent elections and your firm intention to avoid traveling to a corrupt country that doesn't respect the will of the majority -aware of how important tourism is for the country.

Indeed, the corruption of the Mexican government is legendary, from the lowest, most petty officials all the way through to the top. Always has been, likely always will be. It's part of their culture.

I understand your concern and would like nothing better than to see Mexico stable, prosperous and not corrupt. But who can least endure a lessening of foreign money flowing into Mexico, Seitse? The rich? Or the poor?

Suffering must be tolerated sometimes in order to achieve a hit in the pockets of the ilegitimately wealthy... the only place they resent. The poor? The poor are used to.

Yet, your point is tricky -with all due respect. Would you accept to boycott products made by slave labor? In that case, you cannot say 'but the slaves will be fired', or do you?

I would not, and do not buy products made by slave labor if I indeed know they are made with slave labor. I stay away from Wal-Mart, for example.

But I was thinking more in terms of the people who need the tips from the tourist trade to get by and are immediately hurt by fewer tourists.

I understood.

Unfortunately, those people work at hotels that by bribes get construction permits fast and easy, without complying with environmental laws and making public beaches into private, channeling money to higher officials through a path of intermediate officials who had to pay to get that work (due to the juicy revenues of corruption).

Thus, I insist... it is a very complicated situation and, even though I am not comparing, I'll take the example to the extreme: Letä's buy marihuana, because many poor people in Mexico cultivate for the drug barons.

That's not quite the same as placing money directly in someone's hand when you tip them, or buy a piece of pottery in their shop etc.

Believe me, I am one who thinks a prosperous, honest Mexico would be a great benefit to North, Central and South America ... and especially to the USA. Perhaps you know more about this than I do but I don't know of much from Mexico to boycott other than tourism and perhaps some auto parts.

Definitely it's not a simple issue and I understand how hard is to draw the lines for everybody (including me). I am grateful for your good intention, though, and that's what counts. Would you consider sending the e-mail?

I know it's silly, but for me it's specially painful to be so far away (another sad story of 'brain' fleeing, I'm afraid) and I cannot figure out a better way than raising concern.

Yes, I will send emails to the two addresses you provide. I'm not convinced there was fraud in the election but I will voice my concerns about the poverty in Mexico and the inept government.

thanks!

check the link I provide above... the scenario is foggy to say te least and international organizations are strongly recommending to count vote by vote. I think those organizations are trustworthy.

"BOYCOTT Mexico in any way you can "

Don't think there are to many ways I can.
I live just North of San Diego, about 30 mi from the border. At least half the people in my area are Mexican.
Half the people I work with are Mexican.
I can't go to a resturant, bar or most anywhere else without coming in contact with Mexicans.
Literally 100's of illegals pass within a mile of my house on the freeway North to LA and points East everyday.
We've been overrun down here on the border and no one in Government seems to care..
IMO we should just go ahead and buy Mexico or seal that border.

In such dark days like these, when I remember why millions of humble people are literally pushed over the border (plus the thousands of us who are lucky enough to get small academic positions in other parts of the world)... believe me... I really start playing with the idea of, if not a revolution, at least to be anexed by Europe or the States.

Shame, same on me. I know it's stupid, but rage is hard to control.

I understand the impotence of Americans on this issue, but believe me: The fault lies in Mexico but not in the slums or dried corn fields: It's in the nice mansions and fancy government offices.

The government of Mexico is more corrupt than ours by far.
All the juice goes to the top. They don't have a middle class .. you're rich or you're poor, period.

Make Mexico the 51st State.
The economy has hugh potential. A large willing, indeed eager, workforce, Enough coastline in Baja and the Gulf to develop into a worldwide tourest destination.
Best of all .. a tiny Southern border easily sealed off.

I have a lot of experence with Mexican people, both legal and illegal. They leave a good impression.
Their plight brings to mind our forefathers here in the US. They want freedom and opportunity. They aren't averve to hard work. They value the concept of family. They'd make better Americans than many many Americans I know.

YEAH... and dont forget the small matter of how your forefathers 'murdered' 1000s of 'red indians' and stole their land
