I was just watching the BBC for a few minutes and the talking head said that a brain Surgeon had been suspended from his hospital for taking extra Crutons in the cafeteria without paying for them. He was therefore suspended for Personal Conduct Issues.
I was busy being amused when the talking head proceeded with the fact that the waiting list for brain surgery is 39 days in Great Brittain. Then he said that the three patients scheduled for surgery today by this particular surgeon had to be canceled! At this point I'm thinking... This has to be a joke. But it is apparently the truth. All I can say is never piss off a bureaucrat in charge of a hospital in Leicestershire! People could die from it!
<edit> I had to read this for myself... here is a link.

Originally posted by StarValleyWyhmmm... could this be a case of the straw that broke the camels back? Maybe they were looking for an excuse to get rid of him? I'll give you a personal example - my father is a lawyer and built his own law firm from scratch. He has many partners in the firm, 2 of which became intolerable to the rest in their abusive attitude, but them being an ass isn't legal reason for firing them. After 5 years of this my father fired them for hiring a new secretary without consulting the other partners - on the surface this seems like a petty reason but it was the first chance he got becase it was in direct breach of the parteners agreement. Dismissing somone for 'stealing' a bowl of soup may sound petty but any theft is gross misconduct and therefore a sackable offence. Maybe it was the first chance they'd had to legally get rid of him when the real reasons lie elsewhere?
I just realized. If the waiting list is 39 days, it can't be important surgery. Prolly just elective or cosmetic lobottamies. 😲
nb. in the UK you can wait months for an operation that you need today. Many waiting lists are kept shorter because patients die while on them. Unfortunatly I'm not joking. 🙁

The joys of socialized medicine.
waiting times disappear if you go private, the queues are only for those that can't afford to do so. What happens to people in a society without social health care who can't afford private? Probably a big terminal nothing.
There is an argument that if all private practice were banned then the surgeons and consultants would have more time for the public sector, therefore cutting waiting lists...
