the US and the UK have some explaining to do
In fact I don't expect the USA or the UK to begin a nuclear war for the Ukraine, but of course no nation will deliver any atomic weapon if they see what happens in Ukraine...
@ponderable saidso you dont expect the US and the UK to keep their promise?

Why do you bring nuclear war into it?
@Mott-The-Hoople
Are you that dense you can't see we CAN end up with nuke exchanges.
So have you learned Russian yet? It will do you good when they take over in the US like you want them to.
@sonhouse saidhere is your traitors buddy…

@mott-the-hoople saidWhat "promise" is that?

Do you think the agreement requires the US and UK to go to war with Russia because the latter invaded the Ukraine?
@mott-the-hoople saidFirst I expect Russia to keep their promise.

For the UK and the USA this is a dangerous precedent: No nation will give up nukes now in exchaneg for any "safe" frontier promise. The Budapest memorandum was de facto broken when Russia invaded the Crimea.
Of course if the USA and the UK brough in troops and they would face Russisn troops it would be a matter of time, when one side or the other would use the nuclear option (probably Putin, but maybe some joker on any side would think that a strategically placed nuclear bomb could deter...)
@no1marauder saidthey gave their word they would help Ukraine.

But democrats and people like you dont believe in keeping your word.
@Ponderable said - "First I expect Russia to keep their promise."
Funny thing about promises...
"US, UK, FRANCE PROMISED USSR NOT TO EXPAND NATO EAST OF GERMANY
Newly Discovered Document Proves.
A newly discovered document provides more evidence that Western governments broke their promise not to expand NATO eastward after German reunification.
Notes from a 1991 meeting between top US, British, French, and German officials confirm that there was a “general agreement that membership of NATO and security guarantees [are] unacceptable” for Central and Eastern Europe.
--------------------------------------------
And while we are on the subject, in 1962, USSR caused what was known as the Cuban Missile Crisis
when they attempted to put nuke missiles in Cuba, to which the USA greatly protested and
almost went to war - nuclear war over, with the USSR. Funny how the USSR was made - as always,
to be the bad guy, and the USA in white hats, always the good guy. But what they did not
tell us (Americans) at the time was, the US had *promised* USSR to get American nuke missiles
on the Russian border out of Turkey and reneged on that promise. Ahhhhhhhhh.... Make a difference??
USA and the West are far from blameless here in Ukraine invasion.
@mott-the-hoople saidThe Russian Federation, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and The United States of America reaffirm their commitment to Ukraine, in accordance with the principles of the CSCE Final Act, to respect the independence and sovereignty and the existing borders of Ukraine.

That was the promise by the Russian Federation, where you seem to find no fault...
@ponderable saidI believe it is russia that is the aggressor here, I dont think they are going to help.

Its strange that you would say I find no fault with russias actions.
@Mott-The-Hoople
Ah, so you figure sending hundreds of millions of dollars worth of antitank missiles and ammunition and such means nothing because you WANT the US to stick its nose where it does not belong yet again. We didn't belong in Vietnam, we didn't belong in Iraq, and we can't go mucking about sending US troops to Kiev.
