That is true. If we remember that control is a fleeting thing. Life seems to have a way of exacting punishment of us if we become too secure or confident. Unless we fail to risk. If we fail to risk anything, then we might as well be dead.

Let's just say that we can be in charge. If we are willing.

The CORRECT reward is (that of) being included in the pack. We don't "pledge" as an act of intellect. We "pledge" as an act of biology.
