Has Mr. Brown taken a step too far – or spot on?
Gordon Brown announced plans to tighten security at shopping centres, airports and ports. Travellers face price hikes and confusion after the Government unveiled plans to take up to 53 pieces of information from anyone entering or leaving Britain.
The e-borders scheme is expected to cost at least £1.2billion over the next decade.
For every journey, security officials will want credit card details, holiday contact numbers, travel plans, email addresses, car numbers and even any previous missed flights…… and more. The information, taken when a ticket is bought, will be shared among police, customs, immigration and the security services for at least 24 hours before a journey is due to take place.
Those with outstanding court fines, such as a speeding penalty, could also be barred from leaving the country, even if they pose no security risk. Anybody about whom the authorities are dubious can be turned away when they arrive at the airport or station with their baggage.

Coincidentally, history is going to take a much kinder view of Bush than his current critics do – President Bush will go down in the books as having had the courage and the vision to begin the process of transforming a very dangerous and unstable part of the world.
since he and blair started the problem they now blame everyone else. Oliver Cromwell STARTED THE IRISH problem so if history repeats itself then about 220 years from now it may subside

Years from now, if our social concience continues to adapt in the
way that it has, war will be viewed as the antipathy of humanity.
Bush will be viewed as a murderous villain who used death as a
gateway to the middle-east.

He won't be honored for anything to do with the Middle East nor will he be vilified as a callous murderer. He's an idiot. He's reversed 100 years of carefully crafted American foreign policy that emphasized "walk softly and carry a big stick," that used HUMAN RIGHTS to effect change (how the hell can we play that card now with the asinine moves at Guantanamo, Abu Gharaib, and the self-defeating international renditions?). It used to be we slapped China's wrist for child labor practices, now China's craven industries are poisoning us all with the profit (i.e., illegal cheapness) motive -- and what do we do? Nada. I think China still has Most Favored Nation status. Ridiculous.

Anyway, this bonehead and his religious conservative cabal have undone decades of fragile democratic construction. Far from positively affecting the Mideast or anywhere else, he's undermined one of the world's best, most truly democratic influences. And opened the door for more flagrant tyrannies all over the map, most especially in Russia.
